Standard EN511 Gloves Providing Protection from Cold
This standard only applies to gloves that protect hands against convective and contact cold down to -50°C. Gloves which show this pictogram must have achieved at least a performance level 1 for abrasion and tear under EN388. Protection from the cold is graded using 3 criteria listed underneath. The higher the level the better the thermal capabilities of the glove. The testing criteria and levels are as follows:
- a. Resistance to convective cold (performance level 0 - 4)
Thermal Insulation (ITR) in m2?/W | Level |
---|---|
0.30 ITR | 4 |
0.22 ITR > 0.30 | 3 |
0.15 ITR > 0.22 | 2 |
0.10 ITR > 0.15 | 1 |
- b. Resistance to contact cold (performance level 0 - 4)
Thermal Insulation (ITR) in m2?/W | Level |
---|---|
0.30 ITR | 4 |
0.22 ITR > 0.30 | 3 |
0.15 ITR > 0.22 | 2 |
0.10 ITR > 0.15 | 1 |

c. Permeability by water (0 or 1)
Measured as a pass or fail, if water does not penetrate the glove after 30 minutes then it passes.
